The Victorians called these mysterious spheres “pools of light” for a reason: when undrilled and worn against dark fabric or skin, they bend and reflect light in strange and beautiful ways. The effect is a glowing, internal shimmer—as if the light is trapped inside the stone. It’s an optical phenomenon unique to rock crystal when left whole and untouched by drill or facet. In 1900, someone (French - the hallmarks tell us so) created these earrings with rubies set at the bottom for a little fire with the ice.
