How do we know it's the famous astronomer? There's a comet shooting past the back of his head! Halley had been dead for almost a decade before this carnelian was carved, but his legacy was lasting. The comet, as predicted, had been spotted in the sky in 1835 and to celebrate, lots of Halley-themed jewelry like this wax seal was produced.
