Essex crystal aka reverse carved crystal is made by carving images into the base of rock crystal cabochons and then (carefully) hand painting them. The subtle distortion created by the crystal makes the images beneath appear three dimensional. This lovely Edwardian pendant features an Essex crystal with the initials "FW" or "WF" backed by mother of pearl. The reverse side is engraved "27th April 1901." Hangs from a new 18" 14k gold chain.
