These were sentimental/sweetheart rings. While they more often come in gold, this one is brass or some other base metal alloy. Everyone, not just rich people, wanted to show off their crush / give them a gift so some jewelry was produced in mass quantities in more affordable materials to meet that need. Size 8, not resizable, 1/4" wide band. c. 1830-60.
