Alpha and Omega, the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, are used in Christianity to designate the comprehensiveness of God. The beginning and the end, in short: the whole thing, the essence. There's so much going on in this Art Deco-era pendant. The name "CATHERINE" is spelled out as a decorative border, there are intertwined crescent moons, and I could go on. It probably was designed as a gift for a first communion.
