((about))The Reverend George Whitefield was one of the founders of Methodism, a part of the Great Awakening, an evangelical who purportedly preached over 18,000 times to congregations in both the US and UK, and one of the most (if not the actual most) famous religious figures of the 18th century. This opulent gold wax seal features a garnet intaglio of the clergyman dressed in his preacher's robes with arms aloft, as if in the middle of a sermon, and a bible open before him. Etched above him is his surname, Whitefield, and below him is inscribed 1770, the year of his death. A highly unusual and very special piece.
