This mint-condition locket was made in the early Victorian period. The engraving is elaborate and perfect. The purse was a particularly modern motif, tied to money, travel, and women's increasingly mobile lives. Under the glass, the original ribbon or fabric placeholder still rests; nobody ever customized it with hair.
