This star once connected the head and tail of our comet brooch. Irregular diamonds point outward to mimic the flicker of a heavenly body. It's my favorite fragment of all the pieces here. As was typical for Georgian jewelry, the stones are set in silver. To prevent the metal from tarnishing against the skin, jewelers of the era applied a thick layer of rosy gold - known as a "wash" - to the back, serving as a barrier.
