Silesian iron wire-work predates its better known successor, Berlin iron, by a decade or two. Made in Gleiwitz, Silesia (nowadays a part of both Poland and Germany), these elaborate iron pieces of jewelry are composed of superfine fine woven mesh manipulated into all kinds of shapes. Iron, of course, rusts. So most of these jewels have degraded over the past two centuries. Treat this one with extreme care: store it in a dry place, and NEVER expose it to water.
