The story goes: these were worn in the top button by an eligible bachelor to show he was single and ready to MINGLE. It evolved from Victorian-era floriography - a young man pinned a fresh cornflower to his jacket to silently signal that he was single, in love, or actively looking for a partner. Here, the cornflower is rendered in Aesthetic Movement silver, rose and green "gold" (although I haven't tested the gold. It's prob just metal.) There's a hummingbird or other similar bird getting ready to (ahem) pollinate the flower. Hand-engraved on white metal, patent info on back, c. 1900, 5/8" diameter.
