Hallmarks say it was made by Aston & Son Birmingham 1860. Inside, a hand-pierced grill hinges up to reveal some VERY old cotton/wool which still smells like perfume! This was the original purpose of a vinaigrette. It was a kind of portable wearable perfume locket, releasing scent when the metal was warmed by the body.
