Charles II was restored to the throne in 1660 after years of exile during the English Civil War, ushering in the "Restoration" period. Known for his extravagant court and infamous womanizing, he earned the nickname "The Merry Monarch." However, his reign was also marked by major events like the Great Plague and the Great Fire of London.

This ring, crafted during his reign, bears the inscription "A friends remembrance" inside and is stamped with a "B" maker's mark to identify the jeweler. Discovered in an English field by a metal detector, it remains unpolished to preserve its intricate surface details.
