The year is 1680 (ish.) If you're lucky enough to be born rich and own the jewelry of the day, which is made from high-karat gold and faceted rock crystal with ornate scenes underneath it. Here, two flying cherubs hold a crown over your initials which are rendered in twisted golden thread. Probably this clasp would be sewn to a ribbon which you'd wear around your (arsenic-powdered, smallpox-scarred) throat, but that's long gone now. We added a series of graduated gold chains to make it a necklace.
