This piece reflects the mid-19th century fascination with the "archaeological style," when jewelers revived ancient goldsmithing techniques like granulation and cannetille. The goldwork here frames a mottled brown and black jasper intaglio seal engraved with a single word: REMEMBER. It was meant to be pressed into hot wax to create a seal on a letter.
