We rarely see Victorian jewelry with pre-Columbian themes, but here's what we think happened: A woman named Virginia Lyon traveled to Mexico, was captivated by the imagery she encountered, and commissioned this piece to bring home to England. Alternatively, skilled Mexican artisans may have crafted this Aztec-inspired necklace specifically for American, English, or French tourists. A tale as old as time! Virginia's name is thoughtfully engraved on the back.
