On the front, our dude appears as a young man carved in a cameo. Time passes; the 19th century brings technological inventions, the world changes. On the back, he's captured as an old man in a photograph, a medium which replaced paintings and cameo-carving. What a fantastic way to show the passage of time. Dedicated 1878.
