A bullet-shaped miniature pencil dangles from a gold chain and can be skewered through two adjoining horseshoes set with seed pearls. The pencil can be drawn out and extended, then secured back in place with a discreet safety clasp. The telescoping mechanism is stamped S. Mordan & Co., the famous makers of novelty pencil jewelry in the 19th century.
