Jewelry origin story: around the year 1850, two people who loved each other very much wanted to be touching forever. Alternately, a third person loved these two people very much and wanted to keep a part of them close (enter the twin coils of hair). Family? Throuple? Since there's no engraved names or dates on the back, we can only guess. No signs point to mourning here; hair was exchanged and worn among the living to express affection.
