If the amphora was the Victorian shorthand shape for Neoclassicism, the "meander" pattern was the shorthand pattern. Both were so synonymous with the ancient world that they merged to become this modern emoji. It's often referred to as "Greek key" even though this decorative motif appears thousands of years before ancient Greek culture, thousands of miles away from Greece, and among faraway continents. Again, the Victorians didn't care about authenticity, they just loved a Neoclassical look.
